The Campbell Family is a large family of mostly Irish descent. The Campbell Family settled in the Shenandoah Valley in 1842 when Irish Farmer, Kermit Campbell, started a farm in the valley. He, his wife, Sandra, and his brother, Richard settled in the valley. Richard went off to start his own family in the valley when he met Cheyenne Simpson. Richard was killed in a mining accident on July 17, 1849 in Coloma, California during the California Gold Rush (1848-1855). Luckily, on August 12, 1849, Richard had a son named Anthony. Then, on July 2, 1852, Kermit and Sandra had a son named Beauregard Richard Campbell. Kermit was killed in the battle of Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865 just before General Lee's Surrender to General Ulysses S. Grant, who later became U.S. President on March 4, 1869.
